A career-development centre built for professionals.

SeaExplorers Philippines is a long-established PADI 5★ Career Development Centre on the Dauin coast in Negros Oriental. The CDC rating is the highest tier PADI awards to a dive centre — given only to operations that meet specific criteria for instructor training depth, career-path support, and quality standards over sustained years of operation. There are only a handful of CDCs in the Philippines.

Chris Heim, the owner and founder of SeaExplorers, is himself a PADI Course Director — and, like me, Swiss. He has known Daniel Schmid (the CD who owns TSK) personally for many years. The two centres I teach from are therefore run by two Swiss Course Directors who know each other well — an unusual alignment of standards, language, and professional culture across the two continents where I teach.

The centre is a one-stop setup: beachfront dive shop, accommodation on site, restaurant, classroom, equipment room, and boats moored in front. The rhythm of the IDC can run uninterrupted — wake, briefing, dive, debrief, academic session, sunset — without transport friction, logistical delays, or the compromises that drain energy elsewhere.

My working relationship with SeaExplorers is newer than the TSK partnership: I've known Chris for about three years, and in January 2026 I staffed an IDC at SeaExplorers in Dauin. What convinced me was the rhythm of the operation — the facility, the team, and Chris's own standards are built for instructor-level work. If TSK Zürich represents European precision, SeaExplorers Dauin represents tropical tuition depth — both are serious operations, each suited to a different type of candidate.

A wider network across the Central Philippines. Chris also owns Pura Vida Resort — in fact, the SeaExplorers dive centre in Dauin is housed directly inside Pura Vida's Dauin resort. Pura Vida operates resorts in four locations across the Central Visayas — Dauin (muck & Apo Island, the IDC base), Cabilao (reef slopes, Bohol Sea), Sipalay (southern Negros coast), and Malapascua (thresher sharks, north Cebu) — with SeaExplorers dive operations extending the network to Siquijor (walls and caves). For candidates who want to combine instructor training with genuine diving across one of Asia's richest regions, Specialty trainings and teaching-experience weeks can be arranged across the network.

"Dauin is the rare place where the diving, the infrastructure, and the cost of living all align for serious instructor training. You don't have to trade one for another."

Everything on one beachfront property.

SeaExplorers is set up as a professional training destination, not a casual holiday operation. Candidates, staff, and instructors all live and work on the same property — which compresses logistics and leaves the full IDC schedule inside the tide.

Beachfront dive shop

Gear-up area, rinse tanks, camera room, and equipment lockers steps away from the water.

Modern rental fleet

Regulators, BCDs, computers and tanks maintained for daily use by training candidates — no fighting with your gear.

Nitrox on tap

Air and EAN32 filled on site. Nitrox-enabled throughout the IDC for candidates who need it.

Bangka fleet · 15 min to most sites

Traditional outrigger dive boats leave directly from the beach. Most dive sites within 10–20 minutes.

Classroom & AV setup

Dedicated theory room for presentations, exam prep and dive-theory sessions.

On-site accommodation & restaurant

Rooms, bungalows, and a proper restaurant mean candidates focus on training, not on town logistics.

The muck-diving capital of the world.

Dauin's reputation is not marketing hype. The black volcanic sand of the Dauin coast is the definitive habitat for rare critter life — frogfish, ghost pipefish, mimic octopus, blue-ringed octopus, flamboyant cuttlefish, nudibranchs of almost every colour variation. The biodiversity here rivals Lembeh and Anilao, and the conditions are gentler.

For IDC candidates, Dauin delivers the tropical counterpoint to Zürich's cold-water discipline:

Typical dive sites during an IDC include San Miguel, Cars, Mainit, Ginama-an, and the reefs along the Dauin Marine Sanctuary chain — all chosen for their depth profiles, entry conditions, and suitability for professional-level training.

Getting here, and staying here.

Getting there

Via Manila or Cebu → Dumaguete

Fly into Manila (MNL) or Cebu (CEB) from Europe — both connect to Dumaguete (DGT) or Sibulan airport via domestic flights. From the airport, Dauin is a 30-minute transfer by car. SeaExplorers arranges pickup on request.

For candidates travelling from Europe, the usual routing is Zürich or Frankfurt via a Gulf hub (Doha, Dubai, Istanbul) to Manila or Cebu. Total travel time is 16–20 hours including the domestic leg. Planning two buffer days on either side is wise.

Accommodation

Pura Vida Resort — dive centre on-site

The SeaExplorers dive centre in Dauin is physically inside Pura Vida Resort, Chris Heim's beachfront property. For candidates, the simplest option is a room or bungalow at Pura Vida itself — steps from the dive shop, boats, and classroom, with restaurant and pool on the same grounds.

For longer or more budget-conscious stays, guest houses and small resorts along the Dauin coast also work well; the team can recommend vetted options. Costs in Dauin are a fraction of Switzerland, which is part of why the Gold package's two-week Dauin internship is so attractive financially for European candidates.
