One of Switzerland's most established PADI 5★ IDC Centres — and my European home base. Owner Daniel Schmid is himself a PADI Course Director, which means the entire operation is built around training excellence rather than bolted on as an afterthought.

TSK is one of the longest-running PADI centres in Switzerland. Headquartered in Bern with a second location in central Zürich, it operates as both a full-service dive retailer and a training facility — and unlike many shops that teach on the side, training is part of the core identity. The Zürich shop is where I run my IDCs.
Daniel Schmid owns TSK and runs its operations. He is himself a PADI Course Director, which is unusual: most dive-shop owners are instructors or Master Instructors at best. Daniel's dual role means that when I deliver an IDC at TSK, I'm operating from a facility whose owner genuinely understands what instructor-level training requires — logistically, technically, and pedagogically.
The relationship between TSK and my IDC programme is a partnership, not a rental arrangement. TSK candidates become my candidates; my methodology complements TSK's infrastructure. For anyone training in German, Swiss German, French, or English in the heart of Europe, this is the most complete setup I've been able to offer.
"A dive centre owned and run by a Course Director is the rarest combination in recreational diving. It means nothing gets in the way of doing training right."
— Dominik Weckherlin
Swiss standards of precision apply here. The TSK facility is organised around the rhythms of a working dive centre: briefings, confined water, open water, theory, debriefs — all flowing without the logistical friction that drains energy in less-organised operations.
Dedicated theory rooms for academic presentations and dive-theory sessions — not a repurposed shop floor.
Regulators, BCDs, drysuits and computers maintained to a high standard. Candidates focus on teaching, not on fighting their gear.
Air and nitrox filled in-house. No cross-town runs between training sessions.
Full service workshop and retail floor means candidates can source or fix anything mid-programme if needed.
Organised pool sessions for confined-water training modules — at a Zürich venue arranged by TSK.
Transport, gear transport, and dive-site coordination handled by TSK staff so the IDC clock stays on schedule.
First-time visitors to Switzerland often underestimate the quality of the diving. Lake Zürich and the surrounding alpine lakes offer visibility that regularly reaches 10 to 20 metres — better than a lot of marine destinations — combined with dramatic underwater topography, submerged meadows, wrecks, and steep walls.
What makes alpine-lake diving particularly valuable for IDC candidates is the discipline it demands:
Typical training sites include Tiefenbrunnen, Wollishofen, Küsnacht and Horn in Richterswil — all within short driving distance of the TSK facility and chosen for their varied depth profiles, entry conditions, and teaching platforms.

Zürich Airport (ZRH) is one of Europe's most connected hubs with 180+ direct destinations, 12 km from the TSK facility. From the airport, the main train station (Zürich HB) is a 10-minute ride; TSK sits on Stauffacherquai 54, a short tram ride or a 20-minute walk from the main station.
For candidates driving in from Germany, Austria, France or Italy, the A3 motorway connects directly to downtown Zürich. Short-term parking near the facility is available but limited — public transport is the more practical choice.
Zürich offers the full spectrum from hostels to five-star hotels. For a two-week IDC, the best value is usually serviced apartments in Zürich 4 (Aussersihl, Wiedikon) — walking distance to TSK, budget-friendly for longer stays, and part of an authentically local neighbourhood.
On enquiry, I provide a shortlist of vetted options at different price points, including TSK's own recommendations. Swiss costs are higher than in most of Europe — budget accordingly for the Zürich portion of your training.
